Diabetes can be a very scary diagnosis, but it is not the end of the world. Here at Ambassador Long Beach Veterinary Hospital, we will be here for you and your cat throughout this difficult time.

Once you get the news that your cat has diabetes, it is our goal to help both you and your cat through this. We will talk through you through your options. If you decide to treat your cat with insulin, we will teach you all about it.

Our entire staff is available to coach you through the disease. We will make sure that you understand how to properly care for insulin and how to give it. We will also explain any changes that might need to be made to your cat’s lifestyle. Diet and exercise may need to be addressed.

Follow up with a diabetic is very important. It can take a few weeks or months to get your cat regulated on a good dosage of insulin. We like to check blood sugars regularly until we find the dosage that really makes a difference. Once your cat is regulated, we won’t need to monitor your cat so closely but we will want to check blood sugars regularly to make sure that your cat always has the amount that he or she needs.

If you have any questions about diabetes or you think your cat might need to be tested, feel free to contact us today at (562) 427-2889.
